K7ZSD Antenna Photo's

This is a collection of photos, showing several antennas constructed here at Smoke Ranch for this station and others. The photo above shows the two towers here at Smoke Ranch. The one on the left is tower #1, 140' of Rohn 45G tower with seven yagis stacked from 55' to 153'. There are three masts, the top is two lengths of 3"x 1/4 wall DOM galvanized tubing for a total length of 43'6", with 16' above the top section of 45G. Two 3" bearings 6' apart support the top section of mast, and the lower section brings the large prop-pitch motor well below the top to reduce the torsion load. The second mast is side mounted at the upper star guy, and is 22'6"x 3"x 3/6" wall DOM tubing. It holds the upper 10m, 15m, and lower 20m yagis, and is turned by a large prop-pitch motor. The third mast is 16' of 3"x 3/16" wall DOM tube, and supports the lower 10m and 15m yagis. It is turned with a small prop-pitch motor which is side mounted on the lower star guy, again to reduce the torsion load. The star guy assemblies, masts, bearings, and side arms are all homebrewed here at Smoke Ranch. The guys are Phylistran at the tower, and 1/4" EHS to the guy posts.

Tower #2 is 100' of Rhon 25G, with a KLM KT34XA at 100', and a KLM 40m-2, at the top of the 2"x 1/4" wall DOM tube mast. There are two bearings 5' apart for this mast. This tower is shunt fed for 160m with a pair of vacuum capacitors for the matching network.

The two towers have pairs of 3" PVC electrical conduits running underground to the garage at the house. The feed lines for tower #1 are 7/8" Andrew Heliax. Tower #2 is fed to the base with 7/8", and 1/2" Andrew Heliax, and LMR 400 from the base to the antennas. All connectors are 7/16" DIN.
